
Columbia, South Carolina - Charles D. “Chuck” Schaeffer was born March 10th, 1933, in Minersville, PA to Emanuel Charles and Kathleen Connelly Schaeffer. He attended Minersville schools. During his teens, he worked in the coal mines in PA. He served in the army during the Korean War. He graduated from USC with a BS in English and MS in Marriage and Family Counseling. He had a small family counseling practice for many years. After retiring from Astra Zeneca as a pharmaceutical sales representative in 1990, he became an active volunteer in the community. He was a commissioned state constable for 56 years and volunteered with the Cayce courthouse and Richland County Sheriff’s Dept. He was also a long-time volunteer at the Congaree National Park. He was a Free Mason and a Shriner. He was an avid outdoorsman and loved to garden, hunt and fish.
Chuck is survived by his wife Blanche, son Donny (Sunday), daughter Blanche Holliday (Jed), and son in law Joey Long (Karol), He is also survived by his grandchildren Chase Schaeffer (Morgan), Kyra Crawford (Shawn), Edward Holliday (Shier), Sims Holliday, Davis Holliday (Lejla-fiancee). He is also survived by his great granddaughters Chloe Crawford and Margot Schaeffer. He was predeceased by his daughter Fannie Kathleen Long and brother, Jim Schaeffer (Marcy).
A celebration of Chuck's life will be held on July 30th, 2022 from 3:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. at his daughter's home at 1033 Byron Rd, Columbia. Memorials may be made to Shriners Hospitals for Greenville, 950 W. Faris Rd. Greenville, SC 29605 or St. John’s Episcopal Church, 1151 Elm Savannah Road, Hopkins, South Carolina 29061.
