
COLUMBIA - A funeral service for Constantine James (Deno) Siokos will be held on Monday, May 9, 2016, at 11:00 a.m. at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church (old building), 1931 Sumter Street, in Columbia, SC, conducted by The Reverend Father Michael A. Platanis. Burial will follow the service in Crescent Hill Memorial Gardens at 2603 Two Notch Road in Columbia. A visitation will be held at Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 8, 2016, followed by a Trisagion service at 7:00 p.m. Dunbar Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements. Mr. Siokos died on Thursday, May 5, 2016. Born on August 7, 1930, in Columbia, he was the son of the late James Constantine Siokos and Badeia Sabbagha Siokos. He attended Logan Elementary School, Wardlaw Junior High School, Columbia High School, and the University of South Carolina, from which he graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy. Mr. Siokos served in the Army as a pharmacist at Fort Jackson following his graduation from college. After his discharge from the Army, he worked at several pharmacies in Columbia before opening St. Andrews Pharmacy in the early 1960s with his partner George Nickas. After selling the pharmacy to Eckerd Drugs in the early 1990s, Mr. Siokos worked for Eckerd, and later for Morgan’s Pharmacy in Springfield, SC, until his retirement. A member of Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church his entire life, Mr. Siokos sang in the church choir for more than 60 years, was a Scoutmaster for the church’s Boy Scout troop, and was a fixture in the kitchen during the parish’s annual Greek Festivals for many years. He was also a member of the Order of AHEPA and a Mason for more than 60 years. Mr. Siokos was predeceased by his parents and a sister, Maria (Stan) Papajohn, and is survived by his widow, Barbara Summers Siokos; his daughter, Kathy Siokos; his son, Jim Siokos; his stepdaughters, Katie (Jeff) Martin and ViVi (Al) Kidd; his stepson, Johnny Chigges; his sister, Nitsa (Andrew) Demos; his stepgrandson, Cody Martin; and nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews. The family would like to express its sincere appreciation to Compassionate Care Hospice and all those who cared for Mr. Siokos in his last months.
