

Born in Coffee County, Alabama, he was a son of the late T. J. Johnson and Oddessar James Johnson.
Throughout his 20 years of service in the U.S. Army, he was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal w DVC 60, Vietnam Cross of Gallantry w/Palm, Bronze Star, Good Conduct Medal (5th AWD), Naval Unit Citation and the Criminal Investigation awarded on 1 July 1967.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Takeko Johnson; two sisters, Addie Gains and Maureen Lassiter; and a brother, Eugene Johnson.
Mr. Johnson is survived by a daughter, Ms. Miyuki Maureen Johnson of Blythewood, SC; two sons, Mr. Jun Johnson (Jackie) of Burlington, NC and Mr. Michael Johnson (Laurie) of Jacksonville, FL; four grandchildren, Mr. Andre L. Black, Jr., Ms. Kiaira Black and Kerri Black, all of Blythewood and Atchara Kimble of Columbia, SC; two great-grandsons; three great-granddaughters; numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
A visitation will be held Monday, December 30, 2024 at 5:30 p.m. at Dunbar Funeral Home, Northeast Chapel, 4219 Hard Scrabble Road, Columbia, SC 29223. Burial with Full Military Honors will be held in Fort Jackson National Cemetery, 4170 Percival Road, Columbia, SC 29229 at a date to be determined.
