A graveside service to celebrate his life will be held 1:00 p.m. Saturday, August 15, 2020 at Greenlawn Memorial Park with Reverend Cynthia Taylor officiating. The family will receive friends from 12:00 noon to 1:00 pm prior to the service at the graveside. Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel, is assisting the family.
Dan was born October 1, 1941 in Springfield, the third of four children to Dan and Virginia Robinson Phillips.
He was an outdoorsman that enjoyed boating and fishing on Lake Murray. Growing up he spent a lot of time on the Congaree River and earned the nickname of “River Rat.” As a teenager he helped with his families Wise Potato Chip franchise delivering goodies until he went into business for himself as a contractor at D.C. Phillips Construction.
For many years he served as a head maintenance and construction for Rush’s Fast Food. Dan was a member of Asbury United Methodist Church and was a lifetime Mason.
In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by his sister, Betty Huffstetler and brothers-in-law, Tom Tucker of Charlotte and Doug Lovett of Lexington. Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 26 years, Tami Phillips; a son, Andrew D. Phillips (Patty) of Houston, TX; four grandchildren, Robert Padilla, Matthew Raphael, Ellie Marie, and Lucia Phillips, all of Houston, TX; two sisters, Judy Tucker and Grace Lovette; and multiple extended family members.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Asbury United Methodist Church.
