
Daniel Louis Canady, age 79, of Columbia South Carolina, passed away peacefully on Friday, December 26, 2025 holding the hands of his daughter, Dana, and granddaughter, Krissy. He was able to facetime his other children and brother to give his final words before declaring he was ready and peacefully drifting off to sleep.
Born on February 27, 1946 in Lakeland Florida, Mr. Canady proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam war and other tours of duty. He attained the rank of Master Sergeant and was honorably discharged after 21 years of dedicated service. His service was marked by numerous awards and citations, including Purple Heart (3 awards), Meritorious Service Medal, Air Medal Ribbon, Army Good Conduct Service Ribbon, National Defense Service Ribbon, Vietnam Service Ribbon, Army Service Ribbon, Army Overseas Service Ribbon, and Army Presidential Unit Citation Ribbon.
Following his military service, Daniel retired from the United States Postal Service. He was known for his undying patriotism for the country he so proudly served and protected, devotion to his wife and family and remained proud of his service throughout his life.
He is survived by his children, Melissa Ann Canady, Mark Allen Canady (Angela) and his youngest daughter, Dana Lee Stilwell (JohnWayne). He is also survived by his brother, Duane Canady; sisters, Lula Mae Adams and Belinda Canady. Granddaddy as he was fondly called by his 13 grandkids, 17 great-grandkids and one great-great-grandchild and many nieces and nephews. A special mention goes to Roger Hall and Mark and Beth Cheslak, numerous neighbors and along with the owners and staff of Lizard Thicket on Two Notch Road, his favorite restaurant of forty years. He was preceded in death by his late wife, RosAnn Canady; his parents, Louis and Allie Mae Canady; brothers, Don Canady, Dennis Canady and Devane Canady; his stepson, Albert Boltman and great-granddaughter, Ryan Lee Khan.
A visitation will be held at Dunbar Funeral Home, 3926 Devine St. Columbia SC, on Friday, January 2, 2026, at 10:00 a.m., followed by an 11:00 a.m. funeral service. Following the service, there will be a graveside service with full military honors in Greenlawn Memorial Park, 7100 Garner Ferry Road.
He asked all prayers be for his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. A special message he wanted included was “hope that your lives are filled with love, peace and joy and be successful in your daily life. Take time for your loved ones.”
