
Dave joined the Air Force after graduating high school, and served during the Korean Conflict. He studied aviation technology at Spartan College in Tulsa, OK. He worked in aircraft maintenance with Eastern Airlines, Boeing, and BF Goodrich Aerospace before retiring.
Dave is preceded in death by his parents, his first wife Mary Lynn, and her parents Mary and W.H. “Dub” Parks, and grandson Jacob Nelligan.
He leaves behind his wife of 54 years, Joanne Nelligan of Columbia, SC, two sons Daniel and John (Amanda), five grandchildren Jessica Vizcarra (Ryan) of Senoia, GA, Melissa Nelligan (Josh Cook) and Cassidy Nelligan (Jesus Reyes) of Asheville, NC, Holly and Joe Nelligan of Columbia, SC, and three great-grandchildren, Jaxson and Ava Vizcarra and Ethan Cook. He also leaves behind his brother, Nelson Nelligan and his wife Betty, and Nelson’s family Patrick, Mark, David, and John Nelligan and Nina Nelligan.
The family will be receiving visitors at Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel on Thursday, January 6, 2022 from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 3600 Devine Street, Friday, January 7, 2022 at 10:30 a.m. followed by a burial service in Fort Jackson National Cemetery at 12:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation in his honor.
