Born June 1, 1961, in Florence, South Carolina, to Arthur “Buddy” William Richardson Jr. and Janet Griffith Richardson, David always called Columbia home and was a proud graduate of the University of South Carolina.
David was a successful entrepreneur and an early pioneer in the cell phone industry, founding Mobile South in 1992. Following the sale of this company, he transitioned into real estate, where he found great joy in helping young couples purchase their first homes. He later joined Patterson Fan Company, where he became a valued member of a family-owned business that reflected his own deep-rooted values.
A devoted member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, David’s servant heart was evident in his tireless work with the St. Vincent de Paul Society, where he ministered to families in need. Whether delivering furniture to the unhoused, mentoring those seeking a fresh start, assisting with employment, or sharing his faith, David quietly and consistently lived out his love of Christ.
He will be remembered for his gentle spirit, kind heart, and ever-present warmth. David loved sailing, cheering on the Eagles, listening to music and making new friends, but above all, he cherished his family. His greatest joy was his wife of 33 years, Suzanne Geibler Richardson, and their three sons, David, Hunter, and Luke; his daughter-in-law, Sierra; and his beloved grandson, Jack.
In addition to his wife, sons, and grandson, David is survived by his brother, Rick Richardson (Marsha) of Beaufort, South Carolina; sisters, Ann Marie Gibbon (Carlos) of Columbia, South Carolina, and Rebecca Farrow of Chapin, South Carolina, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins whom he loved dearly.
A memorial service will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Friday, May 8, 2026, at St. Joseph Catholic Church. The family will receive friends in Donor Hall immediately following the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to charitywater.org
