
COLUMBIA Doris Hale DaSilva passed peacefully to eternal rest on Saturday, October 11, 2014. Born on November 20, 1924 in Fleming-Neon, Kentucky, Mrs. DaSilva was the daughter of the late Robert Isaac Hale and Bernice Cutshaw Hale. Mrs. DaSilva spent her childhood in a small town in Kentucky, where her father was the local judge. She attended Georgetown College in Georgetown, Kentucky and the University of Kentucky in Lexington, and was an elementary school teacher in Letcher County, Kentucky prior to her marriage. She was a life-long member of Fleming-Neon Baptist Church in Kentucky, where she was baptized. She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Dr. Ercio Mario DaSilva, a native of Belo Horizonte, Brazil whom she met during his medical training in Lexington, Kentucky. She is also survived by her children, Dr. Robert Mario Hale DaSilva and his wife Lita, and Suzann Fair DaSilva Tudor and her husband, John, all of Columbia; her grandsons of whom she was so proud, Robert Hale DaSilva of Charlotte, N.C. and William Brooks DaSilva of Greensboro, N.C.; stepgrandsons, William Middleton, IV and Thomas Preston Rives Middleton; her beloved sister and brother-in-law, Eunice Hale Reynolds and Oscar Daniel Reynolds of Tampa, Florida; her nieces and nephews; and her devoted caregiver, Sammie Carpenter. She was predeceased by brothers and sisters, Roberta Hale English, Imogene Hale Brown, John Elmore Hale, Nathan Scott Hale and Benjamin Richard Hale. A private burial service for Mrs. DaSilva will be held. The family will receive friends from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 14, 2014 at the home of Lita and Robbie DaSilva, 830 Hampton Hill Road in Columbia. Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel, is assisting the family. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Resident Assistance Fund at Still Hopes Episcopal Home, 1 Still Hopes Drive, West Columbia, SC 29169 or Hammond School, 854 Galway Lane, Columbia, SC 29209.
