Doris graduated from Dentsville High School where she was a member of the Beta Club. Doris’ childhood was instilled with family and religious values and she carried those values throughout her life and shared them with everyone she met. Doris met her husband, Joe, and married on December 25, 1949. Throughout their 65 years of marriage, they enjoyed camping at the beach, the mountains, and the lake. Doris was a longtime member of Jackson Creek Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School, held the General Secretary position for many years, and sang in God’s Choir. Doris also worked part time as a cashier at Lowe’s in Dentsville. Her favorite pastimes were loving her family and tending to her African Violet collection. Doris is survived by her husband; daughters, Doris Ann (Carl) Kendall, Jo Ann Gooding (John Boulware); sons, Joseph Edward (Sherri) Stevens, Robert Wayne (Sherri) Stevens; ten grandchildren; seven great-granddaughters and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, two brothers and two sisters. Our heartfelt thanks and gratitude go to the staff of Twilight Manor for aiding and providing the care and compassion Doris so richly deserved. She will be missed by all that knew her.
