

COLUMBIA Memorial service for Edward Joseph “Eddie” Dunlap, 43, will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, July 23, 2015, at Shandon United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, July 22, 2015, at Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel. Eddie died Friday, July 17, 2015. Born in West Columbia, he was the son of Robert Bruce Dunlap and Carole Ann Zapel Dunlap. He was employed with Publix Grocery Store as a Front End Service Clerk since June 2011. He was previously employed by the South Caroliniana Library and the University of S.C. Printing Office. He enjoyed living at Senate Plaza with his many friends. Eddie loved USC deeply and was an avid attendee at home football and basketball games. He volunteered at the Richland County Public Library, the Harvest Hope food bank and Shandon UMC where he attended church and the New Beginnings Sunday School Class and participated in many activities. Eddie was a proud graduate of Irmo High School Class of 1990 and attended the reunions of his class. Eddie was known for his amazing courage, capacity for love and his unwavering generosity to anyone in need. He was an inspiration to anyone who knew him and the epitome of grace, kindness and bravery. Eddie had the most loving spirit and his life was a living testimony to what is possible with support, determination and, above all else, faith. Surviving are his mother, Carole Ann Zapel Dunlap (James Gordon) of Lexington; father, Bruce Dunlap (Patricia Munhall) of Miami, Fla.; sister, Heather Diane Dunlap Pace (Zacchary Pace, deceased); stepsisters, Nikki Bowie (Kevin), Julie Gordon (Greg), Karen Gordon; nephew, Robert Terry Pace (14); niece, Emily Caroline Pace (11); aunts, Nancy Chavannes (Richard) of Des Moines, Iowa, Rhonda Gordon Ellis (James) of Humble, Texas, Barbara Oughton (Ray) of Woodstock, Ill., Flora Dunlap of Rockford, Ill.; great-aunt, Mildred Bridge of Derry, Pa.; great-uncle, Tom Dunlap (Gil), also of Derry; cousin, Kim Wasik (Al) of Caro, Mich., the Belaffsky cousins and many other dear cousins, as well as special friend, Tim Gowder of Irmo. He was predeceased by his maternal grandparents, Harold Edward and Ruth Zapel; paternal grandparents, Robert Joseph and Carol Dunlap; and uncle, David Dunlap.
