
Elizabeth "Betty" Howard Clarke Todd died November 7, 2022 in Columbia, South Carolina. Born in Columbia, on August 5, 1930, she was the daughter of the late Burwell Boykin and Rosa Cantey Heyward Clarke. She was married to the late George Cameron Todd on October 16, 1950. She graduated from Dreher High School, St Mary's College, Raleigh, North Carolina and the University of South Carolina. A lifelong resident of Columbia and lifelong member of Trinity Episcopal Cathedral she was devoted to her church and community in numerous capacities.
Betty will be remembered as a devoted wife, loving mother and faithful friend. She was blessed with the gifts of kindness, patience and a contagious laughter. Bringing joy into her daily encounters, Betty brought a remarkable light that made a difference to those around her. She loved the Lord Jesus, served him faithfully and remains in His tender care.
Surviving is her son, Albert Rhett Heyward Todd of Ventura, California, and her daughter Rosa Cantey Heyward Todd Foxworth (Mrs. Eugene Dewey, III) of Charleston and a daughter-in-law, Sarah Welsh Hall Todd (Mrs.George Cameron, Jr.) of Spartanburg, her only granddaughter Heyward Boykin Foxworth Anderson (Mrs. Thomas Harrison) and her grandsons George Cameron Todd III (Charlotte Graye Pelletier), Eugene Hall Todd (Frances Cazenove McMath), Eugene Dewey Foxworth IV (Carter Burdell Boardman), Burwell Boykin Clarke Todd (Anne Eliza Fite) and Albert Rhett Heyward Todd, Jr. She is also survived by seven great-grandchildren, Evelyn Maxwell Todd, Charlotte Hall Todd, Thomas Chiles Anderson, Eugene Hall Todd, Jr., Thomas Barrett Todd, Charles Harris Todd and Heyward Boykin Elizabeth Anderson.
She was pre-deceased by her parents, a daughter Elizabeth Clarke Todd Heckel and her husband, Dr. Robert Vero Heckel, a son George Cameron Todd, Jr. and a son-in-law Eugene Dewey Foxworth III.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, November 9, 2022 at Trinity Episcopal Cathedral officiated by The Reverend Jimmy Hartley and a reception will be held following the service in Satterlee Hall. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Foxworth-Wells Endowed Scholarship at the College of Charleston Foundation, 66 George Street, Charleston, SC 29401 or to Trinity Episcopal Cathedral Foundation, 1100 Sumter Street, Columbia, SC 29201.
