COLUMBIA - Ellen Marie Malovic was born in Cleveland, Ohio on September 12, 1949, and went to heaven peacefully at her home of 38 years in Columbia, SC on February 27, 2021. She was the daughter of the late Edward and Elizabeth Gutowski. Ellen was predeceased by her husband, Matthew John Malovic, a sister, Katie Gutowski Harrison, and a brother, Michael Gutowski. They are all in heaven waiting for Ellen.
Ellen and Johnny had a love story that most will never know. Johnny proudly served on the River Patrol Boats in Vietnam. Ellen waited patiently for her love to return. They married on July 18th, 1970. Together they loved riding motorcycles, traveling, dancing, attending concerts, and partying with friends. Johnny was wild and Ellen kept them grounded...perfect together. Married just shy of 50 years, when Johnny went to heaven on January 21, 2019, a part of Ellen went with him. Our family has peace knowing they are dancing in heaven together while listening to, “Since I fell for you” by Lenny Welch.
Ellen was the ultimate caregiver to her husband, her children, grandchildren and great-grandson. She had a wicked sense of humor and quick wit. She would always tell us, “I’ve got to start back pole dancing again,” which, of course, shocked her grandchildren. But her grandchildren thought she was a badass and didn’t take anything from anyone. She loved taking them for rides in the convertible mustang with the top down. They would put their hands in the air and all scream.
Ellen was a wonderful friend to so many. She loved sending them cards and checking in. She was not only a homemaker but a florist for more than 25 years. The Flower Cart, Bruno’s, Harris Teeter and Piggly Wiggly were all lucky to have her. She was a hard worker, she went above and beyond, and she was loved by her coworkers.
Ellen loved to decorate, sew, spoil her grandchildren and great-grandson, read and always called the grandkids for help with electronics. Some of Ellen’s favorites musicians were Michael Bolton, Stevie Nicks, Dolly Parton and Ronnie Milsap.
Ellen leaves behind her daughter, Heather Lynn Malovic, Sons, Matthew John Malovic (Jessica) and Robert Edward Malovic (Catherine), Grandchildren, Chanley Ian Malovic, Bailey O’Neal Malovic, Lakelyn Alexis Malovic and Siena Riley Malovic, Great Grandson, Brendyn Malovic, plus her beloved dog, Josie and bird, Tinker.
“We wouldn’t of missed it for the world.”
