Elsie Leigh Harter

COLUMBIA Memorial service for Elsie Leigh Harter, 77, will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, November 8, 2014, at True Life Fellowship. The family will receive friends immediately following the service at the church. Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel, is assisting the family. Elsie died Tuesday, November 4, 2014. Born in Lexington County, she was a daughter of the late Furman A and Annis Furtick Hood. She attended Olympia High School where she met her husband of 61 years, Jon Harter. She later went to work for the U.S. Postal Service from which she retired after many years of service. A former Sunday School teacher for over 20 years, she was a lifelong follower of Christ. She loved her family dearly and enjoyed traveling, cooking and fine foods. Surviving are her husband, Jon Harter; daughters, Wanda McGuffin of Gaston, Josie Shoemaker (Chad) of Gaston, Jonda Wittke (Jeff) of Charleston; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; two brothers; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by three sisters and one brother. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to True Life Fellowship, 4731 Edmund Hwy, West Columbia, SC 29170.
