Mr. Eugene Kenneth Henderson

COLUMBIA Funeral service for Eugene K. Henderson, 81, will be held at 3:00 p.m. Thursday, March 10, 2016, at Rose Hill Presbyterian Church, with burial in Greenlawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service. Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel, is assisting the family. Mr. Henderson died Monday, March 7, 2016. Born in Houston, Texas, he was a son of the late Guiles Wilson and Ernestine Leila Holdgraf Henderson. He graduated from Sam Houston High School in 1952 and the University of Houston in 1960. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1955 until 1957 before being honorably discharged. He worked for Missouri Pacific Railroad from 1960-1963. In 1991, he retired from the Sandidge Company (formerly Lee Hamblin Company) where he had worked since September 1963. He was a member of American Legion Post 6, and also, a founding member of the Sociable Singles at Lourie Senior Center. He was an active member of Rose Hill Presbyterian Church where he served as a deacon and elder and was a member of the Keenagers. Surviving are his daughters, Donna Andrews (Coley) of Lexington, Deborah Hightower (Richard) of Hartsville; grandsons, Chris Long (Melissa) of Greenville, Brian Long (Becka) of Kailua, Hawaii, Bill Hightower of Hartsville; great-grandchildren, Brittany, Tyler, Jacob, Owen, Aiden, Brianna, and Turner; sister, Peggy Smith (Wayne) of LaGrange, Texas; brother, Richard G. Henderson of Pasadena,Texas; and companion, Jean Tindal-Phares of Pelion. He was predeceased by his wife, Dorothy Stewart Henderson and a brother, Robert M. Henderson.
