

Born in Kansas City, Kansas, he was a son of the late Earl Cyrus Garrett and Margaret Ilene McKenzie Garrett. He attended University of Nebraska-Lincoln and Pomona College. Gale was the owner of Protec Inc. Alarm Co. For 28 years, he was also the owner of Chesnut Cottage Bed and Breakfast. An avid Cornhuskers and Gamecock fan, he enjoyed all sports. He collected antique tools, mainly antique hand planes. He also loved crossword puzzles, was an avid reader, and the Jumble. Gale was an expert handyman who loved carpentry, electrical and plumbing repair. He enjoyed drawing and sketching, especially for the “girls.”
Surviving are his wife, Sherwood P. Garrett; son, Daniel Wilson (Fontaine Weyman); daughter, Sarah Bryant (Adam); two granddaughters, Adelaide and Scarlett; brothers, Gary Lee Garrett and Joel Garrett; niece, Annie; three nephews, Matthew, Jonathan, and Benjamin; brother-in-law, Willson Powell; and mother-in-law, Mary Mitchell.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his first wife, Diane Mitchell Garrett.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, April 5, 2024 at Mt. Hermon Lutheran Church, 3011 Leaphart Road, West Columbia SC 29169. A reception will follow the service at the church.
