James Michael "Mike" Burnside

Mike was born in Columbia, South Carolina on March 7, 1948. He was the oldest son to the late Jimmie and Callie Burnside. He excelled in sports and had many stories about the years he played football at Lower Richland for Mooney Player. He graduated in 1966 then went on to serve in the United States Air Force in 1967 with a tour in Vietnam. He loved spending time with his family, hunting, and shooting guns. Mike never met a stranger and was generous with his smile.

Mike is survived by his loving wife of 40 years, JoAnn Burnside, daughter Taj Reid (Charles) of Columbia, son Michael Burnside (Lindsey) of Eastover, and daughter Jennifer Burnside (Chad Wiles) of Branchville. Grandchildren: Callie Reid, Emily Reid, Lilly Reid, Russell Burnside, Hannah Burnside, Nathan Burnside, Jason Wiles, Zach Wiles, Brianna Wiles, and Olivia Anthos. Brothers: Barney (Gloria) Burnside, Bobby (Karen) Burnside, sister: Vicki (Henry) Robbins, brothers-in law: David Waters and Jack Cox Jr., as well as several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.

A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, February 21, 2022, at Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel, with burial in Fort Jackson National Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. Sunday, February 20, 2022, at the funeral home. Memories may be shared at www.dunbarfunerals.com
