
James Frederick Crosby, Jr. COLUMBIA A memorial service for James Frederick Crosby, Jr., 89 will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, June 1, 2016, at Eastminister Presbyterian Church, followed by visitation in the Adult Reception Hall. The family will receive friends from 5 until 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 31, 2016, at 128 Alexander Circle, Columbia. Mr. Crosby died peacefully on Monday May 30, 2016. Born in Sumter, he was the son of the late James F. Crosby, Sr. and Bernice Brittle Crosby. After graduating from the University of South Carolina, he served in the U.S. Army in Italy during World War II. He had a successful career with AT&T/BellSouth, retiring after 49 years of service. His last position with the company was General Manager of Support Services for North and South Carolina. Jim was a long-standing member of Eastminster Presbyterian Church. He was involved in many activities, held many service positions, and was a member of the Frank Harden Sunday School Class. Surviving are his wife of 67 years, Genevieve “Gena” Crosby; sons, James Frederick Crosby III (Jane) of Columbia and Charles Davis Crosby (Kam) of Florence; daughter, Anne Crosby Williams (Tim) of Greenville; grandchildren, Betsy Crosby of Georgetown, Witte Crosby of Denver, Colo., Tim and Davis Williams of Greenville, Charles and Edwin Crosby of Florence, Retta Hawkins (Andrew) of Mount Pleasant, Emily Hepworth of Hollywood Calif.; sister, Jean Crosby Gasque of Elloree. In addition to his parents, Jim was predeceased by his sister, Kathryn Crosby Easterling of Spartanburg, and his grandson, Jack Crosby.
