

Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, June 6, 2023 at Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel, with burial to follow featuring military honors at Greenlawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 10:00 until 11:00 a.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.
A native of Spartanburg, Jack was born on December 15, 1934 to Grady Lee and Mattie Rountree Dempsey. He was a 1953 graduate of Spartanburg High School where he was a pitcher for his local American Legion Post baseball team. Jack was a true patriot. He served his country proudly for 38 years retiring as a Senior Master Sergeant with the Air Force National Guard. While on active duty, he enjoyed boxing and was deployed to Spain during the Berlin Crisis. Jack attended Columbia Commercial College for business and in 1970 he married the love of his life, Vera. In 1990, he served as Commander at Jamil Shrine Temple, was a member of the Scottish Rite Temple, Master Mason lifetime member of LR #406, and American Legion, VFW Post 8738. Jack enjoyed flying Radio Control Airplanes and traveling with his motorcycle group “The Aces”. He cheered for Alabama football, UConn Ladies Basketball, Atlanta Braves and NASCAR.
In addition to his parents he is predeceased by his wife, Vera Dempsey; and two brothers, Wilmer Dempsey and Lewis Dempsey. Those left to cherish his memories include his children, Tamra Campbell (Curt), Andy Dempsey (Francie) Jennifer Dempsey; a granddaughter, Evan Campbell; and two brothers, Harold Dempsey (Kay) and Raymond Dempsey.
