COLUMBIA, SC Mr. James “Jim” Charles Mackel, 65, died Wednesday, December 25, 2019. Born in Atlanta, Ga., he was the son of the late Donald Charles and Rose Rita Donahue Mackel. He was a graduate of Briarcliff High School in Atlanta, Ga. and the University of Florida. He retired as Branch General Manager with Konika-Minolta. Jim was an avid Gators fan.
Jim is survived by his wife of 14 years, Jean Hess Mackel; daughter, Christine V. Mackel of Athens, Ga.; sisters, Dr. Anne Vandersteenhoven (Jacob) of Columbia, Joan Cowan (Benjamin) of Canton, Ga.; nephews Eric Vandersteenhoven (Taylor), Peter Vandersteenhoven (fiancée Caroline); nieces, Katie Cowan, Maddie Cowan; nephew, Charles Cowan.
