James Boyce Rainwater, 90, died on Wednesday, July 1 0, 2024, in Columbia SC. JB, recently celebrated 70 wonderful years of marriage to his "sweetheart" Myrtis McCollum Rainwater, an achievement of which he was exceedingly proud.
JB was a dedicated father to his two daughters, Elaine Rainwater Delk and her husband Fred and Nancy Rainwater Taylor and her husband Zachary, and a devoted grandfather to Audrey Delk Scarlett and her husband Joseph and Noah James Taylor and his wife Cheyenne. As he frequently said, he loved "making memories" with his family and indeed he did.
JB was a remarkable man: he was a voracious explorer of knowledge, he was quick and witty, and he never met a stranger. JB was an amazing artist and created beautiful work, most particularly his watercolors. He was innovative and could always develop new and creative ways to do things. He took extreme care of his cars and celebrated with his wife and daughters at the local Dairio each time a car reached 100,000 miles. In fact, most of his vehicles attained the milestone of 300,000 miles.
JB leaves behind a legacy of love and uncommon strength. When asked about his keys to a long and healthy life, JB quickly responded: be patient, be willing to change; and marry a good partner.
James B. Rainwater will be greatly missed by his loving and adoring family and friends.
A private service will be held at a later date.
