
COLUMBIA Graveside service for James Thomas Wallace, Jr., 87, will be held at 12:00 noon Friday, January 30, 2015, in Fort Jackson National Cemetery. Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel, is assisting the family. Mr. Wallace died Sunday, January 25, 2015. Born in Pittsburgh, Pa., he was a son of the late James Thomas Wallace Sr. and Louise Elizabeth Wilke Wallace. He earned a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering from Carnegie-Mellon University in Pittsburgh and served in the U.S. Navy during WWII and the Korean Conflict. He participated in Operation Ivy in 1952 and retired from the Naval Reserves in 1983. He also retired as an engineer for Stone and Webster where he was a project manager on nuclear and fossil plant facilities. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police for Youth Arbitration in Richland County and a member of Toastmasters. Surviving are his wife of 63 years, Ellen Joan Wallace; son, James Thomas Wallace, III of Columbia; brother, Charles A. Wallace (Mary Ellen) of Pittsburgh, Pa.; sister, Mary Louise Frazee of Myrtle Beach; and nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a sister, Elsa Hopkins.
