

Joan May Williams (known as Annie to her siblings, and Mama to her grandchildren) was born September 16, 1964 in St. Catherine, Jamaica and died September 15, 2024 in Columbia, South Carolina. She was born to Edgar and Inez Williams and was one of seven children. Growing up, she enjoyed cooking with her grandmother, playing with her sisters, reading and drinking coffee. She attended McAuley Primary School, completed high school then attended Fitz Henley Business College, to study math and computer sciences. She had one daughter.
Joan was head-strong, God-fearing, humble, and friendly. Friends describe her as sweet, patient, and easy to work with. Family members describe her as a loving, caring, and can be considered a solitudinarian. The simplest pleasure in life brought great joy to Joan- Peace. She loved a quiet evening with her dog Fluffy and a cup of coffee. She enjoyed reading and listening to music. Her favorite book was the “Garden of Eden” herbal book. Yes, she liked to read about herbs.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her brother Hemrod Williams.
Joan is survived by her loving daughter, Samantha, her son-in-law, Jeremiah, three grandchildren, Isabella, Arya and Jeremiah Jr, three sisters, Veronica, Sophia and Karen, two brothers, George and Wilso Williams and multiple brothers-in-law and nieces and nephews.
The funeral service will be held virtually and announced at a later date and time.
