John Gardner O'Toole

COLUMBIA A Memorial Mass for John Gardner O’Toole, 89, will be held at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, December 22, 2018 at St. Joseph Catholic Church. A Rosary will be recited Friday, December 21, 2018 at 6:30 p.m. at Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel.

Mr. O’Toole passed away Tuesday, December 18, 2018. Born and raised in Fredericksburg, VA to the late John Vernon O’Toole and Dorothy Walker O’Toole.

John was a graduate of Belmont Abbey College and Strayer Business College. He moved from the family business, O’Toole Tire Service, to open the first containerized disposal business in the area, O’Toole Disposal Service, coupled with AAA Fire and Safety Business. He sold these to change careers in 1971 to real estate opening the first office in Lake of the Woods area in 1974, O’Toole Realty. In 1995, John semi-retired merging his real estate business with the Century 21 system and retained O’Toole property management business through 2016. John was an avid trout fisherman with many shared memories of family and friends.

Surviving are his son, Kevin O’Toole (Pam); grandchildren, P. Ryan O’Toole (Ali) and Dennis M. O’Toole (KatieLynn); step-children, Ruthan O’Toole Scott (Floyd/Bud), Robin S. O’Toole (Rita), Pamela J. Erber, Ronald Karl Erber, and Robert Erber Thoreson; step-grandchildren, Richard F. Blasko (Dee), C. Sean Blasko (Jenn), Dawn M. Blasko Encian (Bogdan), and Garrett Beal; fourteen great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter.

He was predeceased by Kevin’s mother, Cecelia Robinett O’Toole; his second wife, Barbara-Sue Blasko O’Toole, and step-sons, Richard Geri Blasko and William A. O’Toole; and his third wife, Imogene Erber Thoreson O’Toole.

A service will take place at Lake of the Woods Church in Locust Grove, VA at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, January 11, 2019. Interment will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens in Fredericksburg, VA.
