Joseph Thomas Smith Jr.

Mr. Smith died Saturday, January 30, 2021. Born in Charleston, he was a son of the late Joseph Thomas and Helen Hasselmeyer Smith. A graduate of Dreher High School, he attended Staunton Military Academy and the University of S.C. He loved outdoors and hunting and was a lover of animals, especially horses, pigeons and dogs. A kind and gentle man, he was a wonderful husband, father, brother and uncle. He loved his friends and family. While he was primarily a Gamecock fan, he appreciated and pulled for all SC teams. He loved to have fun and he told wonderful stories.

Surviving are his wife of 41 years, Iris Parnell Smith; daughter, Audrey Smith Deck (William) of Rutherfordton, N.C.; four grandchildren, Brandyn and Hailey McCaskill, Thomas and Morgan Deck; sister, Betty Munson (Frank). He was predeceased by a daughter, Trae Ann Smith McCaskill.

The family would like to thank the staff of Prisma Health HomeCare, Lutheran Hospice, Dr. John Gould III, Dr. Bryan Mozingo, Barbara Green-Grayson and all the friends and family who have embraced us with love and prayers.
