AVIS DE DÉCÈS
Julie Ronyecz George
11 novembre 1942 – 10 février 2021
COLUMBIA – Julie Ronyecz George, 78, of Columbia, S.C., passed away on February 10, 2021. Born November 11, 1942, in Sewickley, PA, to Anna Louise and Zolton Ronyecz, Julie moved to Hampton, S.C. as a young child. She went to Wade Hampton High School before attending Winthrop College to pursue a degree in Early Childhood Education. Upon graduation in 1964, she moved to Columbia, S.C., to begin her elementary school teaching career and where she would also meet her husband, Barry George.
Julie was the heart and soul of the George Family, raising 3 children whom she supported in every possible way for more than 50 years. Known as “Mama George” to many of her children’s friends, Julie’s unique ability to care for others touched the lives of so many friends and family over the years. She will also be fondly remembered for her love of her favorite things: working in the garden; going to the beach; traveling to New York and New Orleans; enjoying Elvis Presley’s music and Paul Newman movies; and, watching men’s college basketball and the Pittsburgh Steelers. Julie attended church services at Forest Lake Presbyterian Church and Shandon Presbyterian Church.
Julie was predeceased by her parents, Anna Louise and Zolton Ronyecz. She is survived by her husband of 51 years, Barry George; son, Travis; daughters, Paige and Jennifer (Joseph Quattrocchi); her sister, Amy Tuten; nephew, Daniel Tuten (Kim); grandnieces, Gracie and Neely; and countless friends and family members who will miss her every day.
The family will hold a private graveside service with a celebration of Julie’s life to take place at a future time. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Homeless No More 2711 Middleburg Drive, Suite 213, Columbia, SC 29204. Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel, is assisting the family. Memories may be shared at www.dunbarfunerals.com.

I will never forget the times I spent with my Aunt Julie. As a child I spent several weeks one summer staying with Aunt Julie, Uncle Barry and Travis. More than forty years later, I have fond memories of one of the greatest summers of my life. Aunt Julie went out of her way to make me feel at home. Years later, she made me promise never to visit Columbia without coming to see her and Uncle Barry. That was an easy promise to keep. Visiting Columbia will never be the same. Our thoughts and prayers are with Uncle Barry, Travis, Paige, Jennifer and Joey.
Love,
Mark and Kim

Had my first Tea Party with Julie Anne when her family moved from Pa. to Brunson, Hampton Co. Think we were about 5 years old. So I am privileged to have known her since pre grade school. Many childhood memories and always fond thoughts of her all the years there after. She was always a wonderful lady.

My heart is so heavy at hearing the news of Ms. Julia. Our first project together was over 30 years ago. I first installed vertical blinds at their home. Over the years she became much more than a client . She became my friend. We would talk on subjects from men to money and laughed all the way through.
As we would work through decorating projects she wanted me to handle she would influence me to handle other areas of life.
Always encouraging and wise.
Always a smile.
I will miss her greatly.

I was only Julie’s chiropractor, but she was such a fun person to treat. I have a necklace that to this day whenever I wear it I remember Ms. George telling me every time how much she loved it. I would always get her to talk about an upcoming trip with the girls to the beach or a fun city she loved or to Florida to have girl time. She loved being with her family and we would laugh during the holidays about the Christmas decorations outside of the house! Her face was so funny telling us about how crazy it was for Paige and Barry to climb that roof and put up all those things!
I’m so sorry for the loss of your mom Paige and your wife Mr. George. She touched a lot of people in an unforgettable way, including her chiropractor down the road. I adored Ms. Julie so much and will miss her sense of humor and her stories of all the times she sharing with her family, especially her girls.

I’m very saddened by the news of the passing of my Aunt Julie. She was an incredible Aunt, a wonderful mother to Travis, Paige, and Jennifer, and a devoted wife to my Uncle Barry. Growing up I always enjoyed visiting Columbia because I knew we would get to spend time with Uncle Barry and Aunt Julie. I take comfort knowing that she’s in heaven.
Love and prayers,

At the 50th reunion for the Winthrop Class of 1964, Julie and I spent time together reminiscing about our Winthrop days and sharing experiences from the years that had passed since then. Julie was a friendly, lovely person, and I felt fortunate to have connected with her that weekend. My sympathy to her family on your loss.

To The George Family,
Words cannot express how very sorry I am for your loss. In 1984, I was introduced to my "2nd Mom & Dad" (Mama & Daddy George) by her wonderful son Travis. Mama George treated me like family. She called me simply "Julio"... a high school Spanish class nickname my best friend Travis helped pick for me. I'll never forget Mama George and her Elvis tunes and basketball chats :-). 35 years have passed but I still consider Paige, Jennifer and Daddy George my family. Especially Travis. I'm here if you need anything at all. You've lost an amazing mother, wife, daughter, and caring human being. It's comforting to know Mama George is in Heaven now.
All my love,
Rob "Julio" Galloway, Lynn, Emily, John Thomas, Andrew, Chris & Jenny.

Such wonderful memories I'll always have of my "Aunt Julie". Making a trip back home to South Carolina was not complete until we saw Aunt Julie and Uncle Barry. She always had a smile and so interested in what was going on in our lives. In college she wrote me several letters encouraging my decision to go into teaching-I always thought how lucky her students were to have had her! She was definitely my "cool aunt" who loved Elvis, drove the mustang, and enjoyed her travels..but most of all was crazy about her Travis, Paige and Jennifer...and rockstar husband, Uncle Barry! I know she loved her collection of angels too, and I have no doubt the real ones lovingly welcomed her home. Love to you Uncle Barry, Travis, Paige, Jennifer and Joey...we are so sorry, you all are in our thoughts and prayers and may you find peace and comfort knowing we'll be with her again.
Love, Krista, Greg, Matthew and Michael

Not only Elvis and Paul but Julie thought Sean Connery was fine! No better movie partner than Julie to see these three actors! She was always welcoming, always smiling and lovely inside and out! Love her family dearly! Gave herself to her friends without hesitation. Truly a blessing to have known her and thru her her family! She will certainly be missed.
Sincerely, Tricia and Kenny Kitts

Dear George Family,
I’m so sorry to hear about Julie. My mom revered her as a wonderful & true friend. I have deep admiration for her because of this. She proved this quality even further after my mom’s death, sharing funny stories with me which brought me so much comfort in my time of grief. I remember her so well standing in her kitchen laughing and talking with my mom. I know she will be deeply missed and I hope I can offer the same support she offered me. Peace to your family as you learn to move on without her Earthly presence.
Love,
