

SAN DIEGO On the morning of Sunday, March 20, 2016 Kostas passed away in his home among his loving family in San Diego, California, at the age of 86. Kostas was born March 7, 1930 in Loures, Greece. He was the son of a priest and was devoted to his faith and family. In 1969, he and his family came to America to seek a better life. He and his wife, Maria, raised their two children, George and Athina. In 1973, he opened the restaurant Dino’s on Decker and became known as “Mr. Dino”. For next 22 years, he enjoyed the business and the community until he retired in 1995 and eventually moved to San Diego. He spent his retirement years among his loving wife and son, enjoying gardening, wine making and the California sun. He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Maria, along with two children, George Volakakis of San Diego and Athina (Randy) Eargle of Columbia; two grandchildren, Evan and Michael Eargle; one sibling, Stelios Volakakis of Loures, Greece, and many other nieces, nephews and relatives. Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 26, 2016 at 11:30 a.m. at the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church on 1931 Sumter Street with Trisagion Prayers beginning at 10:30 a.m. Burial will take place at Crescent Hill Memorial Gardens at 2603 Two Notch Road, Columbia, SC.
