Laura Mae Dawkins Reese

COLUMBIA - A funeral service for Laura Mae Dawkins Reese, 88, will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, September 27, 2025 at Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel, with burial in Elmwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10:00 until 11:00 a.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.

Mrs. Reese died Wednesday, September 24, 2025. Born in Richland County, SC, she was a daughter of the late Lester Boykin Dawkins and Mary Moore Dawkins. She retired from a fulfilling career at Children’s World Day Care. Affectionately known as everyone’s Grandma, she enjoyed cooking for her family. Most of all, she loved her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Surviving are her daughters, Terry Bradley (Jack) of Hopkins, Donna Mavroftas (Nick) of Duncan, Vicki Haddock (Marty) of Sanford, NC, Gale Cotton (Jerry) of Oak Island, NC; son, Gerald A. Reese (Brenda); nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and sister, Annette Duncan of Lexington.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Gerald Halcotte Reese; sisters, Betty Williams, Earline Moyer; and brother, Buster Dawkins.

Memorials may be made to Palmetto Health Children’s Hospital.
