Libby Alice DeWitt Martin

Libby Alice DeWitt Martin, 76, beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on January 21, 2025 in Rocky Mount Virginia. Born on Easter Sunday, March 28, 1948, Libby brought light and joy into the world from the very beginning. Known affectionately as “Bunny” by her close family and friends, her warmth and vibrant spirit made her a beacon of love and kindness. To her cherished grandchildren, she was lovingly called “Gagoo,” a name that reflected her playful, nurturing, and devoted heart.

A proud graduate of the University of South Carolina, Libby treasured her time at her alma mater and later retired from the university, leaving a legacy of dedication and service. Her life was a testament to resilience and grace, having been predeceased by her husband, Donald Lee Martin, who passed away in 1969 while serving on active duty in the U.S. Army.

Libby is survived by her son, Donald Wade Martin, her daughter-in-law, Pamela Jean Martin, her grandchildren, Daniel Wade Martin and his wife, Kate, and Dylan Lee Martin, as well as her sister, Sammie Brown.

Her family invites all who loved her to celebrate her life at Dunbar Funeral Home, 3926 Devine Street, Columbia, South Carolina, on January 31, 2025. Visitation will begin at 11:00 a.m., followed by a memorial service at 12:00 noon.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Disabled American Veterans organization at help.dav.org, honoring Libby’s legacy and a cause close to her heart.

Libby’s kindness, wisdom, and love will forever inspire all who were fortunate to know her.
