Luana Floyd Coleman, 78, passed from this earthly life into the presence of her Savior on July 15, 2025. She was born in Bennettsville, SC to Carolyn and Richard Floyd. She had a long and fulfilling career as a French teacher at Lexington High School and while she retired from that position in 2007, she definitely did not retire from life.
Love, laughter, and learning are three words that describe Luana’s life. She loved her family dearly, and each of her friends were the beneficiaries of her faithful, generous friendship. Those friends range from high school classmates to colleagues who became friends, to her Sunday school class. She loved listening to good music, enjoying the wonders of creation, reading a variety of books, and traveling to interesting locations. She loved serving others, and she especially enjoyed her volunteer work at Sharing God’s Love, where she developed yet another set of friendships.
Woven through her life was her wonderful sense of humor. She told stories that had her listeners collapsing in laughter and she entertained groups with her funny lyrics to familiar tunes. She took seriously the things that are indeed serious, but she found the funny side of everything else.
Luana both encouraged and demonstrated lifelong learning. During her teaching career, she completed a Ph.D. in French. In retirement, she continued her love of reading and took numerous classes at Shepherd’s Center. According to a family member, Luana often answered Jeopardy questions without looking up from the book she was reading.
Luana was predeceased by her parents, her brother James Richard Floyd, and her beloved husband of 47 years, Jeff Coleman. She is survived by her much-loved son Christopher Kyle Coleman.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, August 9, 2025, at First Baptist of Irmo.
