Margaret Brown Smith

Margaret Brown Smith, age 97, died Friday, March 18, 2022. Born in Columbia on October 11, 1924, she was the wife of the late Woodrow Smith and daughter of the late Paul and Katherine McKinnon Brown. Surviving are her sons, David Smith (wife Jean) and Charles Smith; grandchildren, Matthew Smith (wife Laura), Katherine Osborne (husband Wesley), Lauren Dasher (husband Wesley), all of Columbia and James Horky and Anna Horky of Augusta, Georgia; and nine great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Peggy Horky and her son, Albert Smith.

Margaret graduated from Dreher High School and attended Columbia Business College. She was a member of St. Martin’s-in-the-Fields Episcopal Church where she worked for 30 years in the drop-in nursery. Margaret was an avid reader and she enjoyed playing the piano. She also served as a volunteer at Baptist Hospital for many years and worked as a secretary at Fort Jackson Army Base during WWII.

A graveside service for Margaret Brown Smith will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday March 25, 2022 in St. Martin's-in-the-Fields Episcopal Church cemetery. Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel, is assisting the family.
