

COLUMBIA - A visitation for Marvis Keels Hemphill, 86, will be held from 1:00 to 2:30 p.m. on Thursday, December 22, 2016, at Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel, with a private burial in Greenlawn Memorial Park. Mrs. Hemphill passed away on Sunday, December 18, 2016. Born February 18, 1930 in Sardis, S.C., she was the daughter of the late Henry W. and Leona L. Keels, and he widow of Frank D. Hemphill. Marvis was a 1952 graduate of the University of South Carolina, taught school in Lake City, and was the assistant organist for Sardis Baptist Church for many years. She was a member of St. Martin’s-in-the-Fields Episcopal Church, having served on the Altar Guild and a member of St. Hilda’s Guild, having served as Chairman. Her hobbies included golf, water color painting, knitting, and quilting. She was active many years with the Forest Lake Club Ladies Golf Association and Senior Women’s Golf Association. In 1948 she was crowned Miss Timmonsville. Surviving are her son, Frank D. Hemphill, Jr. (Pamela) of Irmo; daughter, Marie Hemphill Leventis (Andrew) of Greenville; and five grandchildren, Andrew P. Leventis III (Katie), Jason A. Leventis (Elizabeth), Stephanie Leventis Diaz (Rudy), Frank D. “Trey” Hemphill III, and Elizabeth Hemphill.
