
COLUMBIA - A funeral service for Mary Helen Wood Hallman, 108, will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 5, 2025 at the Ebenezer Lutheran Church chapel, with burial in Elmwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:00 p.m. prior to the service at the chapel.
Mary died Thursday, January 30, 2025. Born on July 9, 1916 in Columbia, SC, she was a daughter of the late Raleigh Richard Wood, Jr. and Ethel Cole Wood. She was a graduate of Columbia High School and Draughon’s Business College. For 41 years, she was a secretary for the Department of the Treasury – Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms. Upon her retirement in 1980, she received the Director’s Award for Outstanding Service. She was a member of Ebenezer Lutheran Church, where she was active in the Ladies Bible Class.
Surviving are her son, Richard Hallman and daughter-in-law, Maureen; grandson, Nicholas Hallman and his wife, Terri; great-grandchildren, Kristen Hallman and Matthew Hallman; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Clarence Aubrey Hallman, and sister, Dorothy Wood Dunn.
The family wishes to thank the many nurses and staff of The Columbia Presbyterian Community, who provided Mary with special, attentive care over the past six years.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to The Living Stones Legacy Fund of Ebenezer Lutheran Church.
