

COLUMBIA - Maxie Christine Uhl, 71, died peacefully at Life Care Center on Friday, July 15, 2016, following a courageous battle with Alzheimer’s disease. Born in Kingstree, she was the daughter of the late Wilder Sexton Funk and Virginia Christine Currie Funk. A graduate of A.C. Flora High School and Winthrop College Class of ’67, she earned a master’s degree in computer science at the University of S.C. Maxie retired from the S.C. Department of Revenue as a Manager II after 24 years of service.
Surviving are her husband, Dr. John M. Uhl; son, Rev. Dr. John W. Uhl (Lydia); daughter, Dr. Jennifer A. Scott (Greg); grandchildren, Robert Wilder Uhl, John Vincent Uhl, Nathan William Uhl, Zoe Sophia Uhl, Eli Rains Uhl, Evan Anthony Scott, Caroline Ann Scott; brother, Wilder S. Funk Jr. (Gloria). She was predeceased by a brother, Marion Currie Funk.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, July 22, 2016, at Trinity Episcopal Cathedral, Keenan Chapel, with a reception to follow in the Stirling Room.
The family would like to express a special thank you to the staff of the Haven in the Summit for their care of Maxie, as well as Palmetto Hospice at Baptist Hospital and Life Care Center of Columbia.
