

Michael was born in San Francisco, California, to Gene Alan Culbertson and Doris Culbertson Wyche.
He attended Cardinal Newman High School in Columbia, South Carolina, followed by completion of his Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration at the University of South Carolina. In a distinguished career spanning 38 years at Seibels in Columbia, SC, Michael served as the President for his final decade there. During his leadership tenure, Michael orchestrated the transformation of Seibels into a premier insurance, technology, and business processing outsourcing (BPO) organization. Following his retirement from Seibels, Michael continued to share his expertise and passion as an Operations Consultant for Acadian Managers, which provided him purpose and joy in the final years of his life.
Michael was preceded in death by his wife, Savithri Joan Marian Fernando Culbertson. He is survived by his mother "Dottie" Wyche of Mt. Pleasant, South Carolina; his children Maria Rose Culbertson of New York, New York, Nathasha Culler Westcott, and son-in-law Patrick Walsh Westcott of Greenville, South Carolina, Jennifer Taylor of Clear Brook, Virginia, and Michael Alan Culbertson, Jr. and daughter-in-law Barbara Culbertson of Birmingham, Alabama; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; sisters Susan Culbertson Wright of Lancaster, Pennsylvania and Sheila Culbertson Wagner of Georgetown, D.C.; as well as many, many nieces and nephews.
Michael was a member of Our Lady of the Rosary Catholic Church in Greenville, South Carolina. Michael served as a worship leader for the Catholic Charismatic Renewal of South Carolina and was a key member of many prayer groups statewide. His commitment extended to various nationwide organizations. A beacon of generosity, he shared both his financial resources and time, assisting those in need and exemplifying his commitment to walking in Christ’s footsteps. His rich prayer life and devotion to the study of the Bible showcased a life centered on God, serving as an inspiration to all who were privileged to witness his faith journey.
A Memorial Mass will be held on Friday, March 15, at noon at St. Joseph Catholic Church on Devine Street, Columbia, S.C., with burial in the church memorial gardens next to his late wife, Savi. There will be a Remembrance Service at Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel, on Thursday, March 14. It will begin with a Rosary at 5:30 p.m., followed by refreshments and fellowship, and conclude with an opportunity for attendees to share memories of Michael.
