COLUMBIA - Mildred Coe Lide, 100, died February 3, 2021, a true Proverbs 31 woman. Born on October 25th, 1920, in Stewart County, Georgia, Millie was the daughter of John David Coe and Ola Rollison Coe. Millie graduated from the University of South Carolina, a member of Delta Zeta Sorority, with a B.S Degree in Accounting in 1942. Mrs. Lide married the love of her life, T. Roland Lide, on January 20, 1946 at First Baptist Church, Columbia.
Mrs. Lide retired from the South Carolina State Department of Education as Assistant Personnel Director receiving many honors from personnel associations. Millie’s work career also included time in the Personnel Office at the State Hospital as well as the State Department of Education’s Finance Office. After retiring, Millie and T. R. traveled many years across the USA and overseas. Although they enjoyed their travels, sitting on the porch of “Lide’s Pride” at Lake Murray was one of her greatest pleasures. She enjoyed The Bridge Club, which started in college in 1941 and continued until 2010, as well as the couples bridge club that she and Roland were members of with life-long friends. A life-time Gamecock supporter, Roland and Millie enjoyed attending Carolina football and basketball games traveling to out-of-town games for many years. Millie was the epitome of a gracious Southern lady. She was talented in many areas and enjoyed her needlework projects, sewing evening dresses for Dianne, cooking, and serving others. Millie was a faithful member of First Baptist Church and the Rebekah Naylor Sunday School Class. Serving as an FBC Brownie Troop Leader, GA Leader, WMU , and Children’s Sunday School teacher, Mrs. Lide exemplified a Christian woman with “Martha’s Hands, Mary’s Mind and Ruth’s Heart”.
Mrs. Lide, affectionately known as “Mimi”, is survived by her adoring daughter, Dianne Lide Gregory (Phil); grandson, Philip Lide Gregory (Jennifer); great-granddaughter, Millie Grace Gregory of Greenville; and granddaughter, Catherine Gregory of Greenville. She is also survived by nieces, Karen Hall (Jerry); Martha Lide Figuroa (Charlie); nephew, Mel Lide (Mary); and great nieces and nephews. Mrs. Lide was predeceased by her husband, Roland; sister and brother-in-law, Dot and Talley Kelley; and her nephew, Stephen Lee Kelley.
