

COLUMBIA - A funeral service for Nell Geneva Walters, 93, will be held at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, June 22, 2024 at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, with burial in Elmwood Cemetery. Trisagion prayers will be recited at 6:00 p.m. Friday, June 21, 2024 at Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel, with visitation to follow until 8:00 p.m.
Mrs. Walters died Saturday, June 15, 2024. Born in Hartsville, SC, she was a daughter of the late Leon Hall and Mable Hatcher Hall. She was a retired Lieutenant at the South Carolina Department of Corrections. In the early 1990s, she converted to Orthodoxy, dedicating her time for charity serving as president of Philoptochos and Sunday School teacher at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church. Always smiling and cracking jokes, she was energetic and never met a stranger. She enjoyed spending time in her garden and baking. Most of all, she loved her family, with her great-grandson being her most prized possession.
Surviving are her daughter, Iris Emmanoyhlidhs and her adopted daughter, Patricia Kim (Tok Chin); grandchildren, Ashley Emmanoyhlidhs (Tyler Pitts), Gary Emmanoyhlidhs, Antonia Moore, John Walters, April Joplin, Michelle Walters, and Leslie Walters; and 9 great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Gary Hugh Walters; sons, Broderick Hugh Walters and John Walters; son-in-law, Konstantinos “Gus” Emmanoyhlidhs; and grandson, Owin Walters.
