

COLUMBIA - Nola Corley Lucius, age 103, of Columbia and White Rock, widow of the late Francis P. Lucius, and beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend to many, died November 6, 2014. She was born July 29, 1911, in Lexington County, to the late Simon Preston and Ella Sox Corley. In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by her two sisters and her brother. Mrs. Lucius, a Registered Nurse, was a 1933 graduate of the South Carolina State Hospital School of Nursing. Before retiring, she practiced nursing for many years on the staff of the Veterans Administration Hospital in Columbia. In addition to her professional life, she was a devoted and active parishioner of Ebenezer Lutheran Church where, during her more than seventy-five years of membership, she served in many capacities including acting as the secretary of her Sunday school class over five decades. Surviving are two sons, Gene and his wife, Marcia of Columbia, Will and his wife, Nell of Greenville; two granddaughters, Meredith Papadea and her husband, Nick of Murrells Inlet, Marian Bowers and her husband, Eric of Greenville; four great-grandchildren, Ella Marina and Nicholas Papadea, Evie and Ward Bowers; as well as a niece, a number of nephews, and many, many friends. A funeral service will be held at 11a.m., Monday, November 10, 2014, at Ebenezer Lutheran Church, 1301 Richland Street, Columbia, S.C. 29201, with burial following the service at Greenlawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Sunday, November 9, 2014, between 4 and 6 p.m. at Dunbar Funeral Home, 3926 Devine Street, Columbia, S.C. 29205. The family would like to express sincere thanks to the staff and many caregivers at the Heritage at Lowman (Haltiwanger Residence and the Bethel Unit) for their loving and compassionate support of Mrs. Lucius for the last five years, and to the staff at Palmetto Health Baptist – Parkridge, for their professional care and consideration in her last days.
