Patricia Caughman Griffin, a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 12, 2025, at Opus Healthcare in West Columbia, South Carolina. She was born on May 18, 1948, in Camden, South Carolina, to Thaunon Joshua Caughman and Mary Nolan Caughman. Patricia lived a life marked by love, dedication, and a deep commitment to her family and community.
Patricia's journey began in Camden, where she graduated from Camden High School before pursuing her studies at The University of South Carolina. She embodied a spirit of curiosity and a passion for learning that she carried throughout her life. She dedicated her professional career to serving others at the South Carolina Department of Social Services, where her compassion for helping those in need shone brightly.
In her personal life, Patricia was a devoted wife to her late husband, William Harth Griffin, who preceded her in death. Together, they created a loving home filled with laughter and warmth. Patricia was the proud mother of two sons, William Hugh Griffin and Joshua Oliver Griffin, who were the center of her universe. Her love extended to her four granddaughters, Addison Griffin, Delaney Griffin, Hadley Griffin-Wyckoff, and Brynnley Griffin, who brought her immense joy and pride.
Patricia was a woman of strong faith; she found solace and strength in her church and cherished the teachings of the Bible. Her love for her church community was evident, and she was actively involved in many aspects of church life.
An avid sports fan, she was especially passionate about cheering on The University of South Carolina Lady Gamecocks and her favorite players, Aja Wilson and Aaliyah Boston. You could often find her exploring the streets of New York City expanding her knowledge and curiosity for the arts on Broadway, particularly any show featuring Sam LaFrage.
Her hobbies included baking, where she showcased her talent and love through the treats she made for family and friends. Patricia was known for her vibrant personality and her unwavering support for others, always putting the needs of those around her first. She had a distinctive style, often seen sporting her beloved tennis shoes, which became a symbol of her cheerful disposition. Her library of a book collection and brilliant memory of the plots and characters were only surpassed by her love for movies and going to the movie theater. She was a trusted advisor to many on which book or movie one should read or watch next.
Patricia is survived by her two sons, William Hugh Griffin (Julie Griffin) and Joshua Oliver Griffin; her granddaughters, Addison Griffin, Delaney Griffin, Hadley Griffin-Wyckoff, and Brynnley Griffin; her sisters, Marianne Cannon (Chester Cannon) and Jane Sue Seegars (Joe Seegars); her sisters-in-law, Bonnie Hipkins and Carol Watson; countless nieces, nephews, and cousins.
