Mrs. Davis died Saturday, May 24, 2014. Born in Columbia, she was the daughter of the late Walter Earl and Doris Brown Clamp. Mrs. Davis graduated from Olympia High School in 1966. She was the first baby to be delivered by Dr. Strother Pope and went to work for him after high school. As a teen, she was a candy striper at Baptist Hospital and had the luck of meeting and being kissed by Lorne Greene, Bonanza Star, who was visiting the hospital while in town to be the Grand Marshall for the Christmas Parade. She also worked nine years for the South Carolina State Fair Association, 12 years as a sales representative for Bristol-Myers-Squibb and retired after 14 years as a sales representative from L’Oreal Cosmetics. Her loves were reading, visiting the beach, cruising and attending USS Dyess Navy reunions, where she met many new friends who served with her husband. She was a doting grandmother who loved to have her grandchildren and great-grandchildren around her.
Surviving are her high school sweetheart and husband, Daniel R. Davis; daughters, Shawnee Lynn Davis of Lexington, Cheryl Elizabeth Davis of Arden, N.C.; grandsons, Spenser Lee Price (Amy), Jackson Ross Price (Hannah), Grayson Gardner Davis; granddaughter, Emily Elizabeth Davis; great-grandson, Coleman Matthew Price; brothers, Allan Walter Clamp of Lexington and Anthony Dargan Clamp of Columbia.
The family would like to thank Palmetto Health Hospice for their care and especially to Shellie Webb, her hospice nurse, who cared for her in the last few months.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Palmetto Health Hospice, 1400 Pickens Street, Columbia SC 29201.
