Richard Anthony Petersen

COLUMBIA - A Mass of Christian Burial for Richard Petersen, 80, will be celebrated at 1:30 p.m. Monday, February 14, 2022 at St. Peter’s Catholic Church, with burial in Greenlawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 4 until 7:00 p.m. Sunday, February 13, 2022, at Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel.

Mr. Petersen died Monday, February 7, 2022. Richard was a man defined by love. He loved his friends, his children and grandchildren and most of all, his wife, who was still his sweetheart. He was the perfect example of what a husband should be. Most importantly, in later years, he came to know God and His love for him.

Richard was a true intellectual who never stopped learning and being curious. He earned a degree in Electrical Engineering and worked for the City of Columbia Engineering Department. In addition to his love for all things math, he also was a “techy”, a music lover, a studier of languages, history and wherever his wonder took him. He was a great conversationalist and never met a stranger. His openness and sense of humor were appreciated by all who knew him. We are going to really miss him but look forward to seeing him in Heaven.

Richard leaves behind his beloved bride of 55 years, Mary Petersen; his three daughters, Wendy Gwyn (Steve), Lisa Muir (Jeff), Katherine Muller (Brad); four grandchildren, Andy Gwyn, Jeffrey Muir, Audrey Muir, Bert Muller; his sister, Pam Williams; and many dear friends.
