To know Roger was to know a man whose life reflected the love of Christ in the most genuine and humble ways. He lived his faith not in words alone, but through consistent, quiet acts of service—always ready to step in when someone was in need, often before they even had to ask. Roger possessed a true servant’s heart that touched everyone around him.
A member of Lebanon Methodist Church since 1973, Roger loved the Lord deeply and expressed that faith in many meaningful ways. He and his wife, Sue, led the church youth group for many years, guiding young people and sharing the joy of faith. They also sang together for church services, weddings, and funerals—offering comfort, celebration, and solace. His gift of music ministered to many as he sang in the choir and played guitar.
He found great joy in life's adventures: earning his pilot’s license, teeing off on the golf course, deer hunting, fishing, billiards, tennis, trips to the mountains, and embarking on memorable cross-country motorcycle trips, embracing the open road and the freedom it brought. Roger loved life.
Born in Rock Hill on April 11, 1953, Roger lived a full life marked by dedication to his family, his church, and his friends. He graduated from Wade Hampton High School with the Class of 1971. Roger then devoted 41 years of distinguished service to the SCE&G Company in Columbia, earning respect for his expertise, dependability, and strong work ethic.
Above all, Roger treasured his family. He is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Sue Hogan Tysinger; his sons, Roger Eric Tysinger Jr. (Katrina) and Patrick Tysinger; and his cherished grandson, Kaleb Tysinger (Olivia). His deep love and unwavering support for his family were at the heart of who he was, and he took great pride in their accomplishments.
Roger was preceded in death by his parents Joseph Sr. and Mary Ellen Neal Tysinger, and brothers Joseph Tysinger Jr., and Terry Tysinger.
Visitation will be held at Dunbar Funeral Home in Columbia, SC on Sunday, January 4 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. A Celebration of Life service will be held at Lebanon Methodist Church in Eastover, SC on Monday, January 5 at 11 a.m. with a graveside service to follow. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
Roger will be deeply missed by all who knew him, yet his generous service to others and his abiding love for his family will forever live on in the hearts of those he leaves behind.
“Well done, good and faithful servant.”
