Sherry was born June 12, 1941 in Louisville, Kentucky to the late Jack Ralph Filson and Virginia Pauline Walter Filson. Her family moved to South Carolina in 1955 where she attended Manning High School. She attended 2 years at Coker College and then married her high school sweetheart, Harold Easley Bomar, Jr. on February 14, 1961. Later in life, she returned to college and graduated from the University of South Carolina earning her Bachelor’s Degree in Sociology.
Sherry worked alongside Harold in their own steel fabrication business, Deco Industries. She was invaluable to the business serving as the bookkeeper and receptionist. Harold stated many times Sherry was the backbone of his success. Sherry and Harold had many friends and plenty of impromptu cookouts were enjoyed at their homes in Columbia and Edisto Beach. She made numerous trips with family and friends to the Bahamas and stayed on Harold’s boat where fun, lifetime memories were made. She also loved attending the Kentucky Derby and traveling the world with her much loved aunt, Lucille Miles and cousin, Charlotte Montgomery. Also, one of the many activities Sherry loved after moving to Laurel Crest Retirement Community was playing bridge with her newfound friends. She also enjoyed playing in bridge tournaments and online. She loved to watch football and horseracing on TV and playing cards and board games with family and friends. During these times, she would become very animated… it was always fun to watch and hear her outbursts of excitement.
Attending and being involved in church was always important to Sherry and she just recently became a member of First Presbyterian Church which she absolutely loved. The pastors, her Sunday school teacher and the members all welcomed her with loving hearts and open arms. Sherry was loved by all that knew her and will be truly missed.
