
COLUMBIA - Graveside service for Stella Thompson Cain, 102, widow of John J. Cain, Jr., will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, August 9, 2014, in Elmwood Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends following the service at the grave. Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel, is assisting the family. Mrs. Cain passed away Wednesday, August 6, 2014. Born in Eastover, she was a daughter of the late Wade M. Thompson and Ruth Paul Thompson. She earned her Master’s degree in public health nursing from William and Mary and was a graduate of the Columbia Hospital School of Nursing. Mrs. Cain helped found the first Evaluation Clinic in South Carolina for mentally challenged children in the mid 1960’s. She was an ardent Atlanta Braves fans and was a loving and generous person to all who knew her. Mrs. Cain was a member of the Trenholm Road United Methodist Church. Surviving are her son-in-law, Dr. George A. Lippard, Jr., of Columbia; grandsons, George A. Lippard, III, and his wife, Lillian of Columbia, John Cain Lippard and his wife, Marianne of Milford, Conn.; great-grandchildren, Rebecca Lippard Walker and her husband, William of Columbia, Rachel Lippard Lee and her husband, Andy of Santa Clara, Calif., Stefanie Regan Lippard, Katherine Stella Lippard both of Columbia, Haley Corrinne Lippard of Milford, Conn., John Cain “Jack” Lippard of Milford, Conn.; great-great-grandchildren, Ryan Andrew Lee, Adam George Lee both of Santa Clara, Calif.; and nephews, Paul, Wade and William Thompson. She was predeceased by her daughter, Myra Cain Lippard. Memorials may be made to the Heritage at Lowman Home, 2101 Dutch Fork Rd., White Rock, SC 29177.
