Steve was born on April 16, 1950, in Saratoga, New York, to Leo and Ruth Foster. After graduating high school, he enlisted in the United States Navy where he served his country for 11 years. He received an Honorable Discharge on March 29, 1979. After his service, Steve moved to South Carolina to join his parents. He became a heavy equipment operator until early retirement in 2008. In his retirement years, Steve enjoyed making wooden yard art, other wooden items like clocks and nativity scenes and building architectural Legos for his wife. Steve and his wife took many trips during their marriage including Princess cruises, Disney World and several trips to different locations in Tennessee. But, Steve was his most content when he and his wife went on camping trips. They did not rough it though; their last camper had a 50 inch television.
For several years Steve served as the Sergeant-at-Arms for American Legion Larry Jefferies Post No. 195 in Lugoff, South Carolina. He served in other roles and received great personal gratification for working with other veterans for such a worthy organization. On September 16, 2016, Steve received the American Legion Post 195 Certificate of Appreciation in recognition and sincere appreciation of outstanding service and assistance which contributed to the advancement of the American Legion programs and activities dedicated to God and Country.
