

COLUMBIA - Funeral service for Truitt Holder Casey, 80, will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, September 30, 2014, at Shandon United Methodist Church, 3407 Devine Street, Columbia, SC 29205, with burial at a later date. Pallbearers will be Richard Carter, Jason Bray, Casey Greene, Kevin Adams, John B. Casey Jr., Jackson T. Casey, Stancel Kirkland Jr., Rhett Casey, and Alan Gardner. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8:00 p.m. Monday, September 29, 2014, at Dunbar Funeral Home, 3926 Devine Street, Columbia, SC 29205. Mr. Casey passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Friday, September 26, 2014. Born in Canon, Ga., he was the son of the late Asa Benjamin and Eunice Broome Casey. He graduated from Royston (Ga.) High School, where he excelled in baseball and football. He served in the U.S. Army in the 1950’s and later graduated from the University of Georgia. He worked as a sales representative with Union 76 and was promoted to District Manager in Columbia. He owned and operated Casey’s Union 76 Truck Stop and Restaurant at I-26 and Piney Grove Road. Later he was involved in several other truck stops in S.C., as well as several auto dealerships, including Sumter Chrysler. He and his son, John Casey, owned Coasters Restaurant of Santee, S.C. He was an avid Georgia Bulldog football fan who enjoyed being with family and friends and boating on Lake Murray. Surviving is his wife of 46 years, Loretta Godley Casey of Columbia. He was predeceased by his first wife of 10 years, Rosalie Wansley Casey of Royston, Ga., who died in 1967. Also surviving are his children, Cynthia Casey Reardon (Shawn) of Georgetown, Lisa Jennifer Casey of Santee, Rodney E. Ayers (Alie) of Hiram, Ga., Jan Casey of Chapin, Jim J. Casey (fiancée, Heather Brown) of Chapin, John B. Casey Sr. of Santee; grandchildren, Kristi R. Stephens (Ranny), Alison R. Giesler (Neil), Catherine C. Driskell, Jason L. Bray, Melissa R. Bray, Casey Greene (Sara), Lily Howell, Joshua, Jacob and Kaitlyn Ayers, Rhett A. Casey, Tori Brown, Hanna R., Jack T. and John B. Casey Jr.; great-grandchildren, Jonathan H., Ian, Hayden and Joseph T. Driskell, MacKensly Reid, Baylee Ayers, Anna Rose Stephens, Ruby Stephens, Quinn Giesler; mother-in-law, Margaret Winifred Godley; sisters-in-law, Bobbie G. Kirkland (Stancel E. Kirkland Sr.), Saviella G. Williams, Laine W. LaFayette; nieces and nephews, Alice K. Dyer, Mary W. Passerine (Ernan), Claudette Williams, Stancel E. Kirkland Jr.; great-nieces and nephews, Ethan Kirkland, Jackson Dyer and Sara Dyers, Leo Williams, Tommy and Ben Passerine.
