William was born in Florence, SC to the late Malcolm Ulrich Dantzler, MD and Anne Salmonsen Dantzler. He graduated from Dreher High School in 1971 and the University of South Carolina in 1983. He was a member of Mensa.
He is survived by his sister Anne of Chestnut Hill, MA; his brothers, Malcolm (Noreen Devereaux) of Brookline, MA, Frank, and John (Tamara Church) of Columbia; nephew, James Gerber (Christina) of Brookline, MA; and grandnieces, Mia and Ella.
All who were lucky enough to meet him found William to be among the funniest and smartest people they ever knew.
The family wishes to thank William’s primary caregiver for the past 4 years, Ms. Leta Freeman, for her love and dedication, as well as William’s superb care team at Prisma PACE in Columbia.
