Born in Charleston, S.C., he was a son of the late Thomas C.R. Legaré and Estelle Stock Sams Legaré. He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. A graduate of the University of South Carolina, he retired from the S.C. Employment Security Commission. Bill was a volunteer fireman for Double Springs Fire Department for 30 years, with Meals on Wheels in Townville, S.C. and also as a volunteer with the S.C. Railroad Museum in Winnsboro, S.C.
Surviving are his brother and sister-in-law, Thomas C.R. Legaré, Jr. and Marcia Medlin Legaré of Columbia, S.C., three nephews, Keith, Stuart and John Legaré, and a niece, Sallie Legaré York.
An inurnment service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, February 25, 2022 at the Fort Jackson National Cemetery Columbarium.
