COLUMBIA - Bill Ward passed away in Lexington Medical Center on Wednesday, June 23, 2021.
He was born in Seattle, Washington, on October 2, 1943, to the late William Leon Ward and Sadie Rikard Ward.
Bill graduated from Spartanburg High, and Wofford College. He did graduate work at the University of Alabama in Birmingham.
Bill was a physiologist for 33 years for the Department of Mental Health at G. Weber Bryan Psychiatric Hospital and C. M. Tucker Center. He was a kind, loving man who was dedicated to delivering the best care possible to every patient he encountered. He used his experience and expertise to train hundreds of people working for nursing homes, mental health centers, and various other locations serving those with mental illness throughout the state.
Bill was blessed to have a beautiful tenor voice, and was part of the choir at Trinity Episcopal Cathedral for more than 25 years.
He is survived by a sister, Peggy Ward of Columbia, and a cousin, Ollivette Vassey of Fayetteville, North Carolina. He is also survived by a special friend and co-worker, Walter Sheppard.
The service will be conducted by The Very Reverend Dane Boston, Dean of Trinity Cathedral at Trinity Cathedral on Saturday, June 26, 2021 at 11 a.m., with burial at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens Mausoleum in Spartanburg, SC, at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday.
