
COLUMBIA - A funeral service for Wren Scott Jordan, 96, will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, February 20, 2016, at Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel, with interment in Greenlawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends 10:30-11:00 a.m. prior to the service at the funeral home. A reception will follow the burial in the Greenlawn reception room. Mrs. Jordan went to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on February 17, 2016 in Columbia, SC. She was born in Crystal Springs, MS on June 3, 1919, the daughter of the late Wallace J. and Mamie Green Scott. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ray; her brothers, Leon and Harold Scott; and her sisters, Estelle Scott and Lynn LeBeau. She is survived by her son, Whit Jordan (Kaye) of Vienna, VA; her daughter, Celeste Armstrong (Hal) of Mount Pleasant, SC; three grandsons, Scott Jordan (Misty) of Vienna, VA, Joshua Jordan (Kelli) of Reston, VA, and Brett Jordan (Megan) of Charlottesville, VA; four great-grandsons, Will, Andrew, Jack and Brady Jordan; and one great-granddaughter Katherine Jordan. The family expresses their appreciation to her caregivers, Betty Williams, Precious Addison, Tina Anderson, Faith Fanning and Cynthia Bell. Following her graduation from Copiah-Lincoln College in 1939, Mrs. Jordan was employed by Kennington’s department store in Jackson, MS from 1940 to 1946 as Mr. Kennington’s assistant. On March 1, 1942, she married Raymond Whitard Jordan in Crystal Springs, MS. She moved with her husband from Jackson, MS to Atlanta, GA in 1946 and from Atlanta to Columbia in 1960. She and her husband were married for 67 years before he passed away on May 8, 2009. In 1960, she became a member of the First Baptist Church of Columbia, SC where she was a member of the Rebecca Naylor Sunday School class and the Nan Eidson Circle. She also was a member of the University of South Carolina chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution and the Columbia chapter of the United Daughters of the Confederacy as well as a member of the Thursday Book Club, the Colony Club, the Columbia Country Club, the Palmetto Club, and the University Associates (USC). She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother affectionately known to her family by the name that her mother was called – “Mammaw”. She loved her Lord, her family, her church, and her many dear friends. She enjoyed staying in touch with her many relatives and friends through telephone calls, visits, and attending her church.
