Charles Donald Marvin, 84, passed away at 10:54 a.m. at St. Francis Hospital in Indianapolis. He was the youngest of 2 children and was born in Gary, Indiana on January 6, 1934. A memorial service will be held Wednesday at 12:00 p.m. at Parkside Baptist Church with Dr. Bill Bailey officiating. Visitation will be prior to the service, from 10:00 a.m. until service time. Memorial contributions may be made to the Gideon’s International, or to Parkside Baptist Church. “Chuck”, or “Charlie”, as he was commonly known, was the son of Charles A. Marvin and Helen B. Marvin. Both of his parents and his sister, Charlotte Elaine Marvin, preceded him in death. Charlie graduated from Lew Wallace High School in Gary, received his Bachelor’s degree in Education from Bryan College, and his Master’s degree from Indiana State University. He was an educator for 38 years, 2 years at River Forest H.S. in Lake County, IN, and 36 years in the Bartholomew Consolidated School Corporation. He was a teacher at Northside Junior High School and then a Guidance Counselor at Central Junior High School prior to his retirement in 1999. Charlie loved sports and served the school system as the 9th grade baseball coach at Northside for many years, an Assistant 9th grade football coach, and the scorekeeper for the Northside basketball teams. He also served the community as a Little League baseball coach for the Evening Optimist Club of which he was a member, and served as a member of the Gideon’s International. Following his retirement from education, Charlie sold used cars as the owner of C & W Auto Sales. Charlie loved the Lord, and was a faithful member and servant at his church. He was a Deacon at Parkside Baptist Church until his health no longer permitted him to serve. He was also an active member of the Berean Bible Church for many years. His survivors include his wife of 62 years, Jacqueline Marvin, his children; Mike Marvin of Kokomo, Dave (Debbie) Marvin of Columbus, Melinda (Dave) Dreibelbis of North Vernon, and Lisa Marvin of Columbus. He is also survived by grandchildren; Jennifer (Davey) Sapp of White Oak, Georgia, Lori (Ryan) Wasson of Bloomington, Eric (Vanessa) Marvin of Evansville, Matt Marvin of LaPorte, Paul Dreibelbis of North Vernon, Mark Dreibelbis of Cincinnati, and Julia (Derrick) Robertson of Butlerville. He is also survived by 13 great grandchildren. Myers-Reed Chapel is serving the Marvin family.
